HIV/AIDS is responsible for a large number of orphans in all of Southern Africa. Siavonga district is no different. When a child is left without parents they usually end up with the grandparents if there are any, otherwise they become dependant on other family members for their daily necessities. In a setting where poverty is very much part of everyday life, a family who hardly comes by now have to deal with the extra burden of raising one or more orphans in addition to their own children. This often has the effect where orphans are neglected in many aspects of day to day life.

The main objective with the planned orphan caring facility is to supply these children with a home where basic things like food, clothes and an education will not be out of reach, but something they can count on. This small scale project will house around ten orphaned children between the ages of six and ten. A Zambian foster mother will be living with the children, providing a stabile upbringing. It is our aim to supply them with a healthy lifestyle and an education, and to include them in a part time work program where they can learn essential skills such as vegetable gardening. The orphanage is close to their remaining family and the children will be able to visit them regularly. They will also continue to attend their current schools to make sure that the shift to this home will not be a major interruption to their lives.

You can help by sponsoring a child or supporting their foster mother
